These two robots are done in my high school days
He didn't perform too well but he was fun to build. He is built completely from scratch on top of a Tamiya gearbox. He uses a ATMEGA168 for a brain and a lot of IR LEDs and phototransistors for eyes. The video shows his opponent chasing abilities (but he ran out of batteries at the end).
This is my first robot, he uses IR LEDs and phototransistors to detect objects, and CdS cells to detect light levels. A quad comparator chip is used to determine which sensor sees more light, or which sensor detects an object. A PIC16F648A is programmed to decide where to go. The robot is built on a simple plastic chassis with a Tamiya gearbox and tank track kit.
